Did you know that there are approximately 2.2 billion grilled cheese sandwiches consumed each year in the United States. 😮
My guess is that the majority of those devoured sandwiches don’t deviate too far from two crispy bread slices on the outside with gooey melted cheese on the inside like this Grilled Ham and Gouda Sandwich.
Which gives us an excellent reason to play with the ingredients we have-on-hand to find a new and delicious twist on the old favorite.
The odd time a winning combo hits the mark for our 2,000 taste buds – like this Naan and Hummus Grilled Cheese Sandwich recipe I have for you today.
Devoured two already. Only 2,199,999,998 to go! 🤤

Naan and Hummus Grilled Cheese Sandwich
As Seen On: S1 | EP12: Should I Cook It Or Just Order In?
MAKES: 1 Sandwich TIME: About 10 Minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 1 Naan bread (mini or regular sized)
- 1 Tbsp. store-bought hummus
- 1/2 Tbsp. minced red onion
- Sliced black olives (I used canned)
- Grated cheese
- Canola oil (or whatever cooking oil you have on hand)
HOW TO MAKE
- Spread hummus over one side of Naan bread. Top with red onion, and desired amounts of olives and cheese. Cut the naan in half, then combine the two halves to make a sandwich. Lightly brush the outside of the naan bread with cooking oil.
- Lightly brush a non-stick pan with cooking oil and heat over medium-low heat. Place sandwich on pan and cook until outside of naan bread crisps (about 1 to 2 minutes.) Flip to cook the other side until crisp on the outside and cheese is melted on the inside. Enjoy!
